Rosebuds

A bit about the room...

The Rosebuds' room caters to children aged approximately 18 months to 24 months, providing a nurturing and stimulating environment that supports the continued development of toddlers as they grow. Rosebuds operates with a staffing ratio of 1:3 and accommodates between 12 and 15 children at once, ensuring close supervision and personalised care.

This room is thoughtfully arranged with both carpeted and uncarpeted areas to encourage a balance between calm, imaginative play and active, messy experiences. The nearby bathroom facilities are child-friendly, featuring low toilets and sinks that promote independence in potty training and personal hygiene practices such as hand washing and face cleaning.

Each child in Rosebuds benefits from a carefully tailored learning plan developed by their key person, aligned with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. The activities blend self-directed play with structured adult-led sessions, including sensory exploration, creative messy play, and practical kitchen activities where children can safely explore food and baking.

Outdoor play continues to be an integral part of the daily routine, with access to a soft-play area designed to develop gross motor skills in a secure setting. Children also participate in local outings when the weather permits, including visits to the community library, which offers rich opportunities for language development and social interaction through story times and music sessions.

Rosebuds incorporates daily circle time led by adults, where children gather for songs, games, and stories focused on key developmental areas such as early numeracy, colours, and shapes. The environment is kept engaging through regular toy rotations and continuous provisions like a cosy reading corner and a home corner to encourage role play and independent learning.

Communication with parents is a priority, with daily updates provided through written records and photographs that capture each child’s activities and progress. Key persons compile ongoing profiles that document developmental achievements and next steps, and parents are invited to contribute their observations and collaborate on planning their child’s learning goals.

Intent of the Rosebuds room

  • Children are encouraged to express their preferences and make their own decisions.

  • Through development of relationships with peers, children are supported as they learn the tools for sharing and turn taking.

  • Independence is encouraged increasingly as children wash hands, drink from a cup and feed themselves.

  • Children are supported to increase their language and vocabulary through responding to pictures and words in books.
