Cherry Blossoms
A bit about the room...
Children move into the Cherry Blossoms Room when they reach the age of two, marking an exciting new stage in their development. This warm and engaging environment is tailored to meet the growing needs of toddlers, offering a balance of structure, independence, and exploration.

With a staffing ratio of 1:5, every child is supported by a dedicated Key Person who closely monitors their individual development, plans personalised learning experiences, and works in partnership with parents to support ongoing progress.
Each child’s learning journey is recorded through regular observations, photographs, and developmental profiles, with opportunities for parents to contribute to their child’s next steps.
The room itself offers a spacious and thoughtfully laid-out environment. A large carpeted area supports quieter activities such as reading, role play, and self-initiated play, while a separate messy play and mealtime space encourages sensory exploration, creativity, and social development. A wide range of accessible resources are available throughout the day, empowering children to choose their own activities and follow their interests.

In addition to free play, the Cherry Blossoms team delivers planned, adult-led activities that are developmentally appropriate and designed around the seven areas of learning and development outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). These activities are often centred around current themes, offering meaningful learning experiences that promote communication, problem-solving, physical coordination, and early numeracy and literacy skills.

Children in Cherry Blossoms also benefit from daily access to the outdoor play area, supporting their physical development and love of movement. Outdoor activities range from gross motor games to nature exploration, encouraging healthy habits and a strong connection to the environment.

To support growing independence, the room is directly connected to a child-friendly toileting and changing area, where children are gently encouraged to take an active role in their self-care. Hand washing, toilet training, and dressing skills are nurtured with patience and praise, helping to build confidence and self-esteem.
Where possible, the children also enjoy short local outings—such as walks to the park or library—weather and staffing ratios permitting. These are always undertaken with parental consent and offer enriching experiences beyond the nursery walls.
Parents are kept fully informed through daily feedback sheets detailing their child’s meals, activities, rest times, and key moments. During their time in Cherry Blossoms, each child will also participate in a two-year progress check, providing a valuable overview of their development and ensuring they are on track during this critical early stage.

The Cherry Blossoms Room offers a nurturing and stimulating space where two-year-olds can flourish emotionally, socially, and developmentally—laying strong foundations for their next steps in early education.
