Daffodils
A bit about the room...
The Daffodils Room welcomes children from the age of three years, supporting their journey through the vital pre-school stage. This room forms part of our dedicated pre-school provision at Winston’s Place and provides a stimulating and nurturing space where children are supported to grow in independence, confidence, and readiness for school.

Children are welcomed into Daffodils as soon as they turn three, with many eligible for government-funded sessions the term after their third birthday. These funded sessions offer 15 hours per week during term time, which can be used across a variety of flexible options—morning, afternoon, or extended sessions of three, five, or seven hours.
Each day in Daffodils follows a well-established routine designed to support all seven areas of learning and development set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Children start the day with self-registration and breakfast, before enjoying a blend of free play, adult-led group activities, and outdoor exploration.
Resources are carefully arranged to be accessible and engaging, allowing children to follow their interests and make independent choices. The afternoon mirrors the morning structure, with continued opportunities for learning through play and exploration.
Throughout the day, children are gently encouraged to develop essential self-help skills. This includes using cutlery at mealtimes, managing their own coats and shoes, handwashing, and even preparing snacks or taking part in simple baking activities. These everyday tasks help build independence and self-confidence, crucial for a successful transition to school.

Each child is supported by a dedicated Key Person, who plays a vital role in monitoring development, planning personalised learning opportunities, and building strong home-nursery links. Every child’s progress is recorded in a detailed learning profile, which includes observations, photographs, and regular updates. Parents are invited to contribute to their child’s next steps and to be actively involved in their learning journey.

To keep parents fully informed, we provide an online daily diary detailing the child’s meals, activities, rest, and highlights of the day.
With a strong focus on play, purposeful learning, and growing independence, the Daffodils Room provides a solid foundation for each child as they prepare for their next big step—school.
