Buttercups & Snowdrops
A bit about the room...
The baby rooms are self-contained areas in their own suite within the nursery. They are secure and have a homely environment, with self-contained nappy changing areas and kitchenettes.
The staffing ratio within these rooms is 1 key person to every 3 children, accommodating babies aged from 5 weeks to 12 months. Within each of the two areas we will have 6 babies each day, giving a total of 12 within the two rooms.
Play in the baby rooms is considered of vital importance, and each baby is encouraged to develop at their own pace. Activities, toys, and equipment are monitored regularly to meet each child’s particular age or stage of development. Each baby has his or her own key person, who will: settle the baby in, be responsible for communicating with parents, and record developmental progress on specially designed profiles. All planning within the baby rooms is managed by the child’s allocated Key Person to develop towards the seven areas of learning and development within the Early Years Foundation Stage, focusing primarily on the Four Prime Areas
The baby room provides a great consistency in its care for the babies.
As play is the means by which babies learn, each activity and session is carefully thought through. Daily routines such as nappy change times and feeding times provide opportunities for one to one care and learning. Older babies are encouraged to develop a sense of independence by learning how to help themselves and feed themselves and therefore develop their fine motor skills. Feeder cups are also introduced.
Toys in the baby room are changed frequently to ensure consistent stimulation of every child in all developmental areas. The babies take part in a variety of sensory activities including: jelly play, pasta, painting, crayoning, water and sand play as well as making regular use of our onsite well well-equipped Sensory Room. They also go out on regular walks and visits to the local park, library and surrounding village in good weather.
