Daisies

A bit about the room...

Children move into the Daisies room when they reach the age of two and spend around six months in this setting before progressing to the Sweet Peas room at two and a half years old. The Daisies room operates with a staffing ratio of 1:5, ensuring that each child receives attentive and personalised care. Each child is assigned a dedicated key person who is responsible for planning tailored activities and monitoring their individual development.

The Daisies room features a large carpeted area designed for quiet activities, role play, and self-initiated play, complemented by a separate floor space designated for messy play and mealtimes. Children have access to a wide range of resources during every session, allowing them to choose what they want to explore and engage with independently. In addition to free play, adults lead planned, developmentally appropriate activities that focus on progressing children through the seven areas of learning and development as outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Daily activities often revolve around specific themes, providing a rich and varied learning environment. Outdoor play is incorporated every day, giving children the opportunity to develop their physical skills in a safe and stimulating environment.

Adjacent to the play areas are easily accessible toileting and changing facilities, which promote self-care skills and encourage a healthy level of independence among the children. The Daisies room also offers the chance for local outings, depending on weather and staff ratios, with parental consent. These outings provide valuable opportunities for children to explore their community and enhance their social and physical development.

Parents are kept well-informed through online daily diaries that detail their child’s activities and experiences. Regular observations, photographs, and reports are maintained to track each child’s progress, and parents are actively encouraged to contribute to planning their child’s next steps. Additionally, all children will participate in a two-year review during their time in the Daisies room, allowing parents and professionals to assess developmental milestones and ensure the child is on track.

Intent of the Daisies room

  • There is an emphasis on key development for language, personal needs, toilet training.

  • Children develop their interactions with others, building friendships and sharing.

  • For children to recognise their feelings and emotions which they are able to explain through the high focus on language development.

  • Children are supported to develop control and manipulation when using tools to draw freely, add marks and give meaning to them.

  • To independently wash hands and understand why we do it.
