Lillies
A bit about the room...
The Lillies Room is our dedicated baby suite, specially designed to provide a warm, secure, and nurturing environment for our youngest children, aged from just 5 weeks to 2 years. The room includes a cosy homely setting, a private nappy-changing area, and a fully equipped kitchenette to ensure the highest level of care and comfort.

With a staff-to-child ratio of 1:3, each baby is assigned their own Key Person, offering personalised attention, consistency of care, and a strong link between home and nursery. The Key Person is responsible for settling the child into nursery life, developing a trusting bond with the family, and closely monitoring and recording developmental milestones in individually tailored profiles.
The room's planning is thoughtfully structured around the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with particular focus on the Four Prime Areas of Learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication and Language; Physical Development; and Understanding the World. Activities are planned based on each child’s age, stage, and interests, and are designed to promote learning through play at a pace that suits each baby.

Play is considered vital in the Lillies Room, with toys and equipment carefully selected and regularly rotated to stimulate each area of development. Babies are encouraged to explore a variety of sensory experiences including jelly play, painting, pasta, water, sand, and crayon play. They also benefit from regular sessions in our purpose-built Sensory Room, which enhances sensory awareness and calm exploration.

Daily care routines such as feeding, nappy changing, and sleep times are not only essential for wellbeing but are also treated as valuable one-to-one moments of interaction and learning. Older babies are gradually supported in developing independence skills, such as feeding themselves with cutlery and using feeder cups to build fine motor control.
The babies enjoy access to a safe and engaging outdoor soft-play area, where they can move freely and build early physical development skills. When weather permits, they also go on local walks and visits to the nearby park, library, or village surroundings, offering a wider range of learning experiences in the local community.
Online daily diaries keep parents informed about their child’s meals and activities, ensuring open communication and partnership in their child’s growth and development. This diary also provides space for parents to leave notes or updates, encouraging a continuous and collaborative relationship between home and nursery.

The Lillies Room is designed to give babies the very best start to their early years, where security, stimulation, and emotional warmth are at the heart of everything we do.

Intent of the Lillies room
-
For children to gain confidence as children gain control through walking and the introduction of materials for developing gross and fine motor skills.
-
To start weaning and eat solid foods and use cutlery.
-
Children to feel secure and safe in their environment by developing positive relationships.
-
For children to understand single words and enjoy songs and rhymes.
-
Children are encouraged to express their preferences and make their own decisions.
-
Through development of relationships with peers, children are supported as they learn the tools for sharing and turn taking.
-
Independence is encouraged increasingly as children wash hands, drink from a cup and feed themselves.
-
Children are supported to increase their language and vocabulary through responding to pictures and words in books.
